In the summer of 2020 I was fortunate enough to be asked to join Cantina Creative and Marvel Studios to help conceptualize, design and animate HUDS and interfaces for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

The Falcon had several visor HUD’s throughout. It was an exciting challenge to evolve it from its original look to the Wakandan upgrade. Many versions were done but ultimately this utilitarian look got the thumbs up.

Falcon’s Wakandan upgrade required merging specific functional uses of the suit with the more abstract shapes and forms of previous Wakandan tech.

All throughout the design phase I knew I wanted the HUD to reference his amazing wing suit. The overall shape of the lower controls mirror Falcon’s wingspan while still maintaining the functional pieces necessary for the story beats.

Redwing’s HUD required a more machine vision look and feel. I wanted to mimic an eye without being too literal, so the primary shape of the center iris referenced the hexagon texture on the physical camera lens. Redwing had some important story moments to hit, so in addition to making it feel different than Falcon's more user friendly visor display, choosing bold and clear shapes was important.
